What makes a Good Book?
A "good book" can be defined in multiple ways. However, in my opinion, a good book consists of good pictures, text, connections, and story lines. Having good pictures are important for children who rely on them to help tell the story or illustrate it. In order for students to know how to draw an image in their head while reading, they must first have models to illustrate what the words are painting in the story. Text are also important in a good book because it models how to tell or write a story to children. Good books also have appropriate texts that students can decode, engage in, yet be challenged with the reading. That is how students grow to become good, strong readers. Lastly, a good story line is always a good aspect of a good book. Having a good story line to where readers can make connections to and build on their connections help with comprehension and critical thinking while reading, which is an important skill to have as a good reader.
